Drupal Training Experiences

This is my first online training course ever, and I really did not know what to expect. I also started the class with very little Drupal background, only the little bit of studying I had done on my own beforehand. I have been a front-end web developer for over 16 years, and I was used to hand-coding html, css, and xml, so this was quite different for me.

After going through the Forcontu Beginner and Intermediate Expert in Drupal 7 courses, I am amazed at what I have learned during this short period of time. Working at my own pace through the course on a daily basis in a systematic way, I have learned so much. Each lesson builds on what you have done before, and soon, the lessons you learned previously are the basis of the new lessons and you realize how well you have learned them because you have practiced them.

There are manuals for each level, and assignments that refer to the manual for each chapter so that you get an explanation and guidance for what you are working on. If you have any questions or need help, there is a forum available, and our wonderful coordinator always answers promptly and gives advice and guidance to help us through. We can also see the questions other students have along with the coordinator’s response, and that is helpful for us when we are working on that same assignment, because we just might have the same question.

We are taught how to install and configure Drupal and touched on all of Drupal core. Then we learn how to install modules, and are introduced to many different modules and a variety of modules that can do similar things so that you can experience that and choose which is best. We worked with image styles and image processing, Views, Panels, Display Suite, Rules, E-commerce, SEO, and one of my favorites Multilingual sites. These are only some of the things we were exposed to and practiced during the courses. There is so much more, and I really look forward to what I will learn in the Advanced course.
